Chat 114

Everyday Ruralty
It sometimes amazes me how God puts people in our lives to help at  just the right time. I have been absolutely swamped trying to get a scholarship packet out for my singer/harpist daughter. I haven't even thought of chats. Sorry guys, family will always trump. I opened my email on Sunday, and there was an email from a dear blogging friend. She had put 5 questions in her email. She was concerned about "over stepping her bounds", but I was ecstatic. I was high fiving the dog!(Gee, spellcheck didn't recognize high fiving! They wouldn't if they met the dog either!) What a gift!
If we were actually having a chat here, it would be inside. We have had five straight days of heavy rain. The pigs are having such fun with all of the mud. Everything else is just trying to dry out. It is definitely a tea or coffee day.

A special thanks to Sandra at Thistle Cove Farm. You can visit her here.
  1. How many animals do you have?
  2. Have you begun Christmas plans, travel, decorations, crafts, menu, etc.?
  3. Do you celebrate Harvest Season or Halloween?
  4. How do you heat your house?
  5.  Do you like dishes with white centers or centers with patterns?
My answers:
  1. We have 2 dogs and 4 cats. As far as the farm goes, the chickens, turkeys, sheep, cattle, pigs and horse are in the hundreds. It's what we do for a living.
  2. I have picked up a few gifts. I'm thinking about cards and our annual cookie baking party, but that's all so far.
  3. Harvest.
  4. Wood or pellets or heat pump. In that order, it depends on what we have enough of or who is turning it on.
  5. I love dishes. I think too much busyness looks bad with food, but I would still never refuse a pretty dish. I'll use what I love, but in the restaurants I worked in, they would never use a pattern under the food.

  1. Thanks, sweet Lady for letting me join in this week. HOPE life becomes less stressful soon!!! Have a great week!

  2. Hello Patrice: Don't have a blog to share a post on, but I thought I would share some answers here.

We have been downsizing in the animal department - at least indoor animals. Two of my kids have hamsters, one has a cat, the family has a dog. Outside we have six ducks and 19 chickens. This week we will be giving away one hamster and the cat. They are going to new homes because the novelty has worn off.

Not much thought has gone into Christmas except for what I might give the kids. I am thinking more about what charities to donate to this year.

I suppose if we had a successful garden this last year, I might celebrate our harvest. Otherwise, I do not celebrate either. We don't do a church trunk or treat or harvest either.

We heat our home with a pellet stove in the basement, a heat pump through out the house, a supplemental boiler system, and we have a wood burning stove in the living room. We also have a small gas stove in the sun room.

Oh Patrice - I don't think you would like my Polish pottery then. :) They are really loaded with design. However, my China is very simple.

Thanks for the chats. I am in agreement with Debbie - Hope and pray life becomes less stressful soon.

  3. The questions were delightful. Don't get too busy!

  4. I find it simply amazing how God puts certain people in our lives at just the right time, too!!

  5. Thanks for the fun link up. Your blog is beautiful!

  6. Hi Patrice, thanks for letting me help and hope you made it to FedX in time...praying!

  7. I am joining in the fun this Chat - will be linked up tomorrow. Thanks - great idea!

  8. I agree with Karen- it truly is amazing how God puts the right people in our lives at the right time. Oh if I could only have a dollar for every time it's happened to me, I would be a rich girl!
    God is good...

  9. How many animals do you have? 3, a dog, cat and turtle
Have you begun Christmas plans, travel, decorations, crafts, menu, etc.? Starting to do some shopping and will probably make a wall hanging, dinner is always the same and always at our place.
Do you celebrate Harvest Season or Halloween? I don't like Halloween, so I put out fresh orange, red, brown accents inside, a decorated cat on the door and hand out treats. With 3 kiddos at home, I can't deny them the fun!
How do you heat your house? Electric heat, a small electric fireplace and 2 Eden Pures. We just moved from an all wood heated house, it was to much work on all of us and during the day I froze, because I couldn't load the firebox!
Do you like dishes with white centers or centers with patterns? Doesn't matter, I have both.

  10. Hi Patrice-- I finally got my chat done!

  11. Well, dang. I haven't a clue how I missed commenting...it's a dark talent, I know -grin-.
Patrice, hope things have slowed down for you and you met your deadlines. Be well!
