Chats on the Farmhouse Porch 90

Everyday Ruralty
I can't believe that we've been visiting for 90 weeks! We're getting to be good friends by now. :) I enjoy having you join me each week. It's fun to read answers and get to know everyone. This is an incredibly busy time of year on the farm. The weather has gone from hot and sunny, to cold and windy. I'm sure I caused it by packing up my winter sweaters last weekend!
Please join in if you've never been to a chat before. All you have to do is add the button above to your post and answer the questions. Link up your post so pthers can drop by your blog. Then enjoy visiting the other folks who also linked up.
QUESTIONS
  1. Do you prefer to drive or be driven?
  2. What's your favorite kind of jam, jelly, or preserve?
  3. Do you have any special plans for this spring or summer?
  4. Lots of folks are becoming aware of issues with food. There are many articles, books, and movies on topics like allergies, GMO, pesticide use, bad or no labeling, over processed foods, foods from other countries that may not have high standards, and many more topics. What concerns you the most? If nothing concerns you, have a cookie and skip to the next question.
  5. Do you use nail polish often? Finger nails, piggies, or both?
My answers:
  1. 1. Drive! Definitely drive.
  2. I love strawberry jam with lots of nice pieces of fruit in it.
  3. Just lots of hard work around our farm and house.
  4. I am so concerned about GMO. It's playing Dr.Frankenstein with our food! You know you shouldn't play with your food!:P
  5. I polish the piggie nails in the summer. There is no use in doing anything with my fingernails. When I was cheffing, it was out of the question. Now, it doesn't fit in with the farm life. I'm not Lisa Douglas from 'Green Acres', Dah-ling!
Wishing you a wonderful week!

  2. For once I am on the ball and got my answers done early. So early I am the first link following :). That's never happened. Love the Lisa Douglas line. That was one of my favorite shows. I completely agree about the strawberry jam, the more fruit pieces the better is all I got to say :).

  3. I got a good laugh out of the nail polish question. I have 56 bottles of nail polish. I have been know to buy a bottle of nail polish because I like the color THEN go buy an outfit to match the nail polish! A little backwards but that's how I roll. LOL

  7. I feel awful I haven't done one of these link ups in so long. I have been going crazy lately. :) I like your questions today. I have become very concerned about our food today. GMO and organic have become something of importance to me and our family. We are trying. There is a cost to it - especially if you don't have a garden or haven't started one up yet. Organic foods are costly, but being smart is what matters. We make everything from scratch and I am very diligent about making sure my food is either non-gmo or organic. You still find things you aren't happy about; such as organic apples having tetracycline in them. Ugh! Doesn't sound very organic to me. Right? But, what's the alternative?

I look forward to a producing garden, but I don't think I have much hope any more for this year's garden. The soil hasn't been properly amended and being due in 8 weeks limits what I am able to do. Hubby travels a lot and is supposed to leave this week for a month. The rain throws things off every couple days because the ground is so mucky.

I do have potatoes and garlic planted, but I am always skeptical if things will work when I haven't had success before. Over the fall, we will compost our garden as well as we can.

  10. I enjoyed the questions-- The GMO foods scare me and it's crazy what is being put out there for people to consume. I'm with you on the nail polish.

  12. I prefer to be driven than to drive because I get to anxious behind the wheel since I don't drive too much anymore.

Can I pick to two of my favorite preserves? If I can then it's a toss up between blueberry & strawberry - I love 'em both!

The only thing special we have planned at the moment is to take some alone time with DH at the end of May like we typically do. As you may know, we did squeeze in an extended trip to Naples, Florida in March and that was really awesome.

I am a food label reader. The first thing I look for is if the product is made in the USA. Many of our national brands are being produced in Mexico. I don't know about you, but I do not feel comfortable with my food being manufactured anywhere outside the US. I do buy foods sweetened with artificial sweeter, but I make sure it doesn't phenylalanine which has been linked to certain cancers. And, here lately I am trying to be more aware of food properties which cause allergy flare ups. All are usually mild, but if I choose to ignore them then continuing to intake foods that irritate my digestive tract will result in big trouble for me eventually.

Unfortunately, I do not polish my finger nails except on rare occasions. I should do it regularly to keep my nails looking nice, but I find it to be a difficult chore to maintain.

Oh well, I'm sorry for participating on a more regular basis than I do, but I have developed a funkiness that is interfering with the love of many of my hobbies. Call me crazy, but I think it all boils down to bent out of control hormones... again. :( Thanks for hosting, my friend!

  13. 1. If I drive, I get where I'm going, faster. If I'm driver, I can knit...either way is good.
    2. Blueberry Damson conserve then apple butter.
    3. I would LOVE to sell the farm, find a place to move, then move. God willing.
    4. Just did a blog entry on that, and other stuff, Friday. It's very disturbing, very!
    5. Very infrequently due to formaldehyde. I don't want to be embalmed when I die either.
