Welcome to the porch! We should go inside and get a cup of tea or coffee, since it's so cold outside. Wendell can just watch through the window. Speaking of Wendell, I just came back from a walk to the barn to give him his carrot, laced with his medicine. It's quite ingenious to carve a small hole in a carrot and load it with his pills. He loves carrots so much, he'd swallow a Volkswagen if you could fit it in a carrot! :) Back to my story. As I entered the dark barn, I had to walk from the first section of stalls, through the feed room. I had to open a huge door that won't open very wide (think thin) and step over a wooden stoop. When I entered that part of the barn, I heard load noises. Thankfully I had a flashlight. Our six pink piglets (big piglets- teenagers for pigs) were sleeping in a pile. They were snoring quite loud. It clicked in my brain that hubby had moved the pigs to that barn. It was a bit of a surprise hearing the loud snores that sounded like growls, before I realized what was going on.
We've been waiting patiently for Hildegard, the sheep, to give birth. When doing routine chores, the farmer discovered that Winnie, the sheep, had a newborn white lamb by her side. She was pregnant? This ewe is so fuzzy, you couldn't tell. It's funny how those things happen.
QUESTIONS
- Who has the most outgoing personality in your family?
- How did you name your blog?
- What's your favorite topping for ice cream?
- Tell me about someone you know who would make a wonderful character for a book. Oops- please.
- Please tell me up to three questions that you think I should ask on future farmhouse chats.
My answers:
- Me. I think my youngest child would qualify for that distinction too.
- We are a farm family, so "rural" fit. I had an idea of farm royalty, so I merged some words and came up with Ruralty. It's my day to day life, hence Everyday. Everyday Ruralty- voila!
- More ice cream? Carrots? Hush, Wendell. It's my ice cream! I love hot fudge on ice cream. I also like strawberry sauce or fresh berries.
- My girls have an elderly "uncle" who tends to fall asleep when he visits. When the girls were very little, they'd put play jewelry, hats, boas, and other things from their dress up box on him while he was snoozing. They waited so patiently for him to wake up, not knowing what to expect. He laughed when he figured out what they'd done. He then asked them for their dress-up box, where he found a tutu. He slid it on over his clothes and picked up a wand. From that time on, he was known as the "Farm Fairy". I have a bunch of pictures of him in this outfit, but he wouldn't want me to put that on my blog. I forgot to tell you that he's bald as a billiard ball. My sister used red yarn and made him a wig, so next time he came to visit, he wore the wig. He also has an elaborate crown that he wears to visit the farm. Tell me this guy wouldn't make a great character!
- Uh-Uh! I asked first! I will try to use some of your questions for our chat, but I may not use all of them.:)
Oh Patrice all those little babies on the farm so exciting. I love babies in the spring. Good luck. B
ReplyDeleteI love your story about your uncle. He sounds like he would be a great character.
ReplyDeleteFarm life must be filled with many unexpected surprises. Indeed, you're clever in tricking Wendell to take his medicine like this. I wish the same sort of thing worked with children. I recall trying to give ours liquid Benadryl when they were little and they would clamp their mouths so tight. It wasn't a pretty picture to get them to cooperate.
ReplyDeleteYour uncle sounds like a character! I'll bet he's a lot of fun to be around.
ReplyDeleteA surprise lamb. What a nice surprise! I have a crazy photo of my husband with a tutu on his head. I was reminded of that when you told that story about your "farm fairy." He sounds like quite a character.
ReplyDeleteMy questions are lame, so not hurt feelings if you don't use them! LOL. Hope you have a great week.
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolute hoot your uncle must be!I totally agree with you about more ice cream! I used to love hot fudge and just about everything else, but not anymore. It's all too sweet for me believe it or not! I adore the name of your blog!
ReplyDeleteHot fudge is my favorite too. I love the name of your blog and your header! Your uncle does sound like he would make a great character in a book! :)
ReplyDeleteyou make me laugh. does Wendell ever ask questions?
ReplyDeletei really enjoyed the questions this week. to fun!! thanks for the enjoyable time. ( :
Sounds like a busy time on the farm. I am not taking part in the chat this week but still want to tell you that, in my youth, my favourite topping for (vanilla) ice cream was unsalted peanuts and maple syrup.
ReplyDeleteCath @ Bits 'n Bobs
Chocolate fudge is my favorite too! Of course ANYTHING chocolate is my favorite. LOL Tell Wendall that nope, carrots are NOT good on ice cream! LOL
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is the social butterfly of the family. I am partial to caramel on my ice cream.
ReplyDeleteI think that this uncle sounds like a great character. How blessed you are to have him in the family. My girls used to dress up/make up my husband while was he was asleep. One day while he was napping, he got the treatment: blush, eye shadow, lipstick. The works. Then, there was a knock at the door and he got up to answer it, not realizing what had happened to him while he slept. The fire department fundraiser people had the funniest looks on their faces. I had tried to warn him before he went to the door, but oh well. haha
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
