Storm Update

Friends,
I thank everyone for prayers and good wishes. We still have a bit of rain, but it is very light. We got about six inches, so I will be renting out canoes in my basement as a side enterprise. :) All of the people and animals here are alright.

Most of our damage was from wind. We had a chicken house picked up and moved about a foot. This is a structure that my husband can only move with the tractor. Fortunately, it was only put back down on a feed trough, not a critter. We have metal roofing flapping on a few buildings and a leaky hole in one of our barns. Our new hoop greenhouse lost its cover, but it doesn't seem to be torn. With the absence of the cover, the crops in it were beaten. Our fall Brassica crops are on their sides, moaning. We hope that some of the plants will spring back up. We hope that we can still have a harvest from many of them. We'll see.

I worried too much about the pet rabbits, so to shut me up, D2 went outside and loaded them in small pet carriers to wait out the storm. I enjoyed having them inside, but we didn't want them to get too warm, so they stayed on a cool, enclosed porch.

My heart goes out to all who have been hit with the eye of this storm. To all who still have power, and are able to read this, I wish you safety.
xo,
Patrice

p.s.- Wendell wanted me to tell you that he is pruny (you know how you get when you're in a tub too long). He's requesting a blow dryer! :)

  3. Patrice, thanks for the detailed update. I hope you'll be able to get everything back on track rather quickly. These storms can cause such terrible destruction...am trying to read reports when I can. I imagine some blog buddies are without electricity and unable to make posts, for the time being. Glad everyone over there made it through!

  8. Thanks for letting us know that you are all OK. Sorry about the damage to your farm but it could have been so much worst. This storm is so frightening and my heart goes out to all who lost so much.
Poor Wendall, at least he must be super clean. We got wind and rain last night here and we are praying for all those affected by Sandy.
    Stay safe.

  11. Just updated K on your condition and circumstances. She says to tell G she is glad you all made it through, and her letter went in the mail today. Now it will be interesting to see how long it takes to get to you!! Sorry about your greenhouse. We have had mostly wind out here, but they are threatening us with snow flakes! So far it seems to have stayed either up in the clouds or east of Indiana's center line (US HWY 31). It is DANGED cold here, though, with all this wind. Love and hugs and glad to hear everyone survived even if Wendell is a bit pruny and the chickens had their feathers ruffled!

  15. So, happy y'all are okay. I thought about you as Sandy played havoc on all of my friends up north. While everyone was getting soaked to the bone, our folks in WV & VA were getting lots of snow thanks to all the moisture Sandy brought in colliding with that northern cold front. Why even in the Smoky's they got a lot of snow, as for us no flurries at all. We did some wind, a little rain, and the cold from all this mess, escaping all of the ugly nasties everyone up that way has had to deal with. Anyhow, just wanted to say how very glad to know all is well there. Blessings to you, my friend!
