Chats Under an Umbrella- a Farmhouse Porch Chat 66

Everyday Ruralty
The title of this blog post isn't entirely true. You couldn't begin to hold an umbrella in the weather we're having. It's raining sheets of rain. The wind is howling and trees are being violently whipped. I'm concerned for our barns, outbuildings,  machinery, but most of all, for our animals. I truly hope they survive this storm. We've done all we can to secure things here on the farm.
Wendell is under our bank barn with Rocky and Ricky. It wouldn't be unlike him to walk out in the storm. With the wind we're having, his hair may just be standing straight up like the fight promoter, Don King.
We could chat in the house, but the wind is so loud, you must speak up. It's amazing how quickly it got cold out there too. I guess we should have lots of hot tea, coffee, or hot cocoa.
This Week's Questions
  1. How are you when there is a storm?
  2. Are you doing anything special in November?
  3. Do you wear glasses or contacts?
  4. Salty snacks or sweets?
  5. Who would you bring to the farm with you for a chat, a tour, or perhaps a visit with Wendell?
My answers:
  1. I'm a nervous wreck. I know "ye of little faith..." I never used to be afraid of storms, but we had a tornado touch down here when I first moved to the farm. I haven't been the same since. We bought a Thundershirt for D2's dog, since she's terrified of storms. It really works! She's nicer with the shirt on even in good weather. The family jokes that I need one too!
  2. The most special thing about November is Thanksgiving. It's one of my favorite days of the year. I'm also going to knock myself out writing for NaNoWriMo. I'm trying to get mentally prepared for that month long project.
  3. I wear glasses when I drive in the dark. I do not have to wear them, but they really help with clarity.
  4. I've always had a sweet tooth, but in the last year, I'm going crazy for salt. Not just anything salty. I'm totally obsessed with these incredible potato chips! I want some right now! My store that carries them only had two packages when I was there last week. I bought them, but they disappeared. Poof! I want more.
  5. I would bring all of you, when there is good weather, and we'd have a barn party!
I hope that you all have a good week. I wish safety to everyone who is affected by this storm.

  2. Praying for the safety of you, your family and the animals. Your remarks about the storm reminded me of that song by the McKamey's, Sometimes He Calms the Storm and sometimes He calms me.

  3. Ms. Patrice, we're praying for you too. I remember my first hurricane in 1996. You may remember Fran who ran off course & hit Wilmington, NC head on - with little to no warning. Like you I was terrified, I couldn't sleep, & my fear was trying to take over (after all I was a midwestern girl...We didn't get hurricanes!). With one crash of lightning & seeing our hotel's storage shed get blown away, The Lord led me to the story of Jonah. With the help of a glow stick, I read it all night while my then 6 month old "Girl" peacefully slept in her Daddy's arms. While, the storm is there I pray almost as much for your peace as I do your safety.

  5. Trusting the weather is quietening down now, and hoping also everyone and everything survives.
I've heard of the NaNoWriMo which is an enormous challenge, and wish you all the best.
    Blessings.

  6. Okay Patrice, I gotta know....have you moved Chats to Tuesday? I'm late, if you did do this and that's nothing new. I've kinda gotten into a rut of being the last one or so it seems in my mind to show for the hops. Anywho I got my post up earlier today and then I forgot to link up. Call me crazy, if you want. I'm so glad you're ok. Thanks for hosting, as always!
