Chats on the Farmhouse Porch 59

Everyday Ruralty
Sorry I was a bit late for the chat. An ER visit can throw your whole week! D3 is healing. You get pretty sore with an injury like that. Wendell says he won't be trying that anytime soon. He also wants his own helmet. ??? Let's get to that chat now.
QUESTIONS
  1. What's the last thing that made you cry?
  2. Have you ever had any small pets, other than cats or dogs?
  3. Waffles or pancakes?
  4. Do you like politics? We don't need to know who you want to vote for if you are in the US, facing the upcoming election- just asking if you find the whole thing interesting.
  5. Please fill in the blanks: If only I could____________then___________.
My answers:
  1. Monday morning, D1 took the commuter bus back to the city for college. I see her weekly, but I'm still adjusting to not having her here in the house. I cried for a few minutes until I realized how silly it was since I'd see her in six more days.Besides, She's doing well and that makes me happy!  I also thought of how quickly the time passed from the girls being little to the time when I have one in college. It was only yesterday that...
  2. I used to have a flying squirrel that had been rescued during a bad storm. Our family had a closed -in porch that hardly ever got used, so my dad brought a small tree (about six feet tall without leaves) into the porch and attached it into the wall so the squirrel could climb it and jump off to fly. We kept the log with a hole that we'd found him in and that was his "bed". He'd crawl in every evening. So cute!
  3. I like both, but pancakes reign here! We make several varieties of gluten free pancakes. I have a daughter who loves to pour them and flip them, so I usually only have to make the batter.
  4. I dread the time when elections are near. I'm so tired of voting for someone just because I don't want the other guy. I generally don't trust any of them. I HATE POLITICS! I'm surrounded by those that find it fascinating. I read a lot more books when everyone is going on about current political things.
  5. If only I could find a way to have the time to write again, then I would finish up some of my projects and feel a great sense of accomplishment. I dream of being a writer, yet I find myself peeling tomatoes and chopping peppers to freeze. Laundry calls, family calls, insanity calls (like that one?) I used to write a minimum of 1500 - 3000 words a day. I had to stay up after everyone else went to bed to do it, but I did it almost like an addiction. I was really happy, but very tired. A number of health issues forced me to chose sleep over writing. If I don't find a way to carve time out of my schedule, I'll go nuts. If you see me on the porch, rocking (in fetal position), you'll know what happened!
I'd love to hear what you're doing these days. Are you enjoying early fall? We have to wear sweaters early in the morning, by 10:30 or so, sleeveless shirts and shorts are in order. The birds are lighting on the land and on power lines in large groups. They actually make a big, dark cloud. The geese are flying over now. I always wave and say hello to them. I know it sounds stupid, so I don't do it when farm customers are here!

I hope you have a great week. I hope to get our chat up on time next week. No ER visits for us if I have my way.

  1. So glad your daughter is recovering. Wow ... thankful for helmets, eh? :)
Off to answer my own questions now. *Very* different answer here on the politics question!

  2. Glad to hear that D3 is doing OK. What a scare.

I am with you on the Politics thing. Hate this time of the election cycle. Hate the rhetoric. Hate the stances taken. Hate the ads cutting down other people.
OK... I have recently pledged to come up with 3 positive things whenever I have negative thoughts (it is somewhat related to my post from yesterday). I guess this means I must come up with at least 12 nice things! Love your blog! I really enjoy participating in the chats, and reading people's responses. I love that it is actually raining outside. I am enjoying the fact that it is grey outside - we haven't had that in months and months! I am so excited about this weekend. I am actually looking forward to doing some work down in our basement. My flowers are looking so pretty in my garden. Your flying squirrel sounds like he/she was really cute. Our neighbors used to enjoy watching the flying squirrels in their backyard. I, too, prefer pancakes. Yum!
I'm not sure how I would answer your last question, but I admire you for knowing what you want. At least you have a goal and you can work toward achieving it!

  7. I had big dreams of being a writer when I was younger. Blogging kinda helps me accomplish that! How are you doing today? Concussion watch is no fun!

  8. I think it's great that you wave to the geese! Now I don't feel so bad about talking to the birds around here. :) No. I am NOT enjoying early fall. Blast it all. Our mornings have been in the upper 60s but it doesn't last long. I want the weather that starts the day in the 40s or 50s and doesn't go above 70. THAT's fall weather. And we are NOT having it. It doesn't matter how often you get to see them when they go off to college, it's still different. I think you're doing great though! And how nice of DD3 to provide you with a distraction. I'm so very glad she's on the mend. Please give her a hug from me!

  9. I can't imagine wearing a sweater in September anymore. We usually don't break out the sweaters till December. Still, today has been a pleasant day, with lower than usual humidity and sweet breezes. It's a nice change from the excessive heat and humidity we've gotten all summer long.

I'm with you on politics. Isn't it depressing? I wish politicians would realize how sick they make us. And I wish celebrities would stick to the entertainment business and stop trying to confuse the American public with their opinions.

Have a great rest of your week! Take care D3, hope you feel better soon.

  10. The explanation about the comments....I put my "chats" on a page at the top of my blog and there's so many comments because that's from several week's worth. I went in and deleted the ones that were just on the current chat....sorry to be so confusing. I confuse even myself most of the time!!! ;-)
