My answers:
- I baked an apple cake and frosted it with caramelized fig frosting. I had made caramelized figs to serve on ice cream and I had some leftovers. I added powdered sugar, milk, and a splash of vanilla and came up with a delightful frosting. Yum!
- The cool temps and the leaves are my favorite things. I also enjoy seeing the geese fly over, and the large flocks of birds that light and take off together. It's breath taking! An apple pie or two gets high marks on my list too!
- I love my dining room. We remodeled it and I painted it a sunny yellow. I have glass front cabinets that I can put my china, tea cups, and other serving things in. Those pretties have been in storage most of my married life since I didn't have a place for them.
- Me. Ugh! Yuck! Grrr! Did I tell you I hate the job? :p
- I got to see my lovely college student daughter on Sunday. We drove to the city and went to church with her. I'm so happy to see her happy and doing something she likes. I miss her, but I'm glad she's only a drive away.
Have a great week! Wendell will be with us next week if he can get his hair dry. He said he was too much of a "sight" and he wouldn't come to the porch today.
Good Morning Patrice; first time I've joined you on the porch. Please tell Wendell I had a hair cut yesterday; don't haircuts make you feel wonderful?!
ReplyDeleteOh, that frosting sounds so good. You'll have to post the recipe soon. Tell Wendell to come on and join in....we all have bad hair days!!!
ReplyDeleteNo link today? The frosting sounds interesting. I do love figs, you'll have to post the recipe.
ReplyDeleteNice questions this week Patrice. I am glad school is working out.
ReplyDeleteThe link is up. Sorry I forgot to put it on last night.
ReplyDeleteThat cake and frosting sounds devine. Hubby would love it. I'd love the recipe. I love sunny yellow. I bet the dining room looks great.I think I know where Wendell went...a picture of carrot cake on my blog has been bit into. Wondering if Mr. Wendell could be the culprit?
ReplyDeleteWendell said thanks for the cake.
DeleteYour cake sounds so yummy, wish I had a piece. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove fall colors and figs!!! Thanks for hosting :)
ReplyDeleteMy oldest is still a few years away from going to college, but I know that I am going to be over the moon whenever he comes home to visit.
ReplyDeleteDid you officially move the chats to Tuesday and I missed the memo? :) I'm going to add it at the end of the post I put up today---next week, I'll get it right! How many more days until the big move? Or did I miss that too?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite room is the dining room too!!
ReplyDeleteHi Patrice, I'm gonna chat with you here this week. When you say "bake", does reheating a frozen apple crisp count? (probably not lol). I love everything about Fall, but not really loving any room in my house lately. And I have the crappy job of paying the bills too.
ReplyDeleteKim
Patrice, I answer the questions here too.
ReplyDeleteI baked an apple pie yesterday. I cheated and bought a Sarah Lee Dutch Apple pie but I baked it in my oven. Fall is a cooler season and I love the colorful leaves.
It's hard to pick a favourite room because I love them all now that my upstairs bathroom are both renovated. My husband den is the one that grieves me the most because he has stuff everywhere.
I'm the one who takes care of all the bills for the house and I also take care of the farm bills too.
One of my heifers calved this week and her uterus came out inside out. The vet fixed her but had to come three times for her. We think that she going to be OK. Her calf was born outside the gate and was all dirty and was sick with e-coli and was treated with antibiotic and is better. The heifer has had a rough beginning as she caught her tail in a fence last year and broke it. Now she has a short tail which is not long enough to chase flies with.
I hope that you have a great week. JB
Hey Patrice,
ReplyDeleteI got the recipe out of Taste of Home. It is filled with over your quota for corn syrup, and every thing fake. You could make it very easy of good stuff and it would be better I think. Here is the recipe. :) I am feeding lots of teenagers right now and they all like it.
1 package (18-1/4 ounces) white cake mix
1/2 cup flaked coconut
1/4 cup poppy seeds
3-1/2 cups cold milk
1 teaspoon coconut extract
2 packages (3.4 ounces each) instant vanilla pudding mix
1 carton (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed
1/3 cup flaked coconut, toasted, optional
Directions
Prepare cake according to package directions, adding coconut and poppy seeds to batter.
Pour into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool completely.
In a large bowl, whisk the milk, extract and pudding mixes for 2 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes or until soft-set. Spread over the cake. Spread with whipped topping. Sprinkle with toasted coconut if desired. Yield: 20-24 servings.
Apple cake with a caramelized frosting sounds delicious. Now, I don't know about caramelized fig frosting, but a caramel frosting would be good on apple cake I would think. You know kinda like caramel apple cake! =D I'm so delighted autumn is just around the corner. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteAlmost missed the chat, again! I'll answer here since I am so late!
ReplyDelete1. Baking something? Geesh.... ah..... pies at Thanksgiving? Oh, wait, I baked another pie at Christmas!
2. Like you, I love the leaves and cool days. The wind blowing through the trees with a bit of a chill, perhaps with the smell of burning leaves in the air, tells me it's fall. That's probably only something from the wetter areas of the country, though, not here!
3. I love my kitchen. It has lots of storage and plenty of counter space. Maybe since it is so nice, I should do more baking, huh?
4. Thankfully hubby does all of that. I did it for a few months near the beginning of our marriage. He hated my way of doing things and took the job over. Hooray!
5. I am on a diet. I hate it that I've gained so much weight. A lot of it packed on after the horses left. I wish I could drop the extra baggage quickly.
I love apple cake and carmelized frosting but haven't ever heard of fig frosting. Of course I don't think I have ever eaten a fig either.
