Chats on the Farmhouse Porch 53

Everyday Ruralty
Hello, friends! I think I'll be able to post this without the help of a certain horse we all know. He's in the pasture practicing his dance steps. He was a dancing fool last week. Here are some of the steps he did.
-the Two Step with Tami (4 step??)
-the Electric Slide with Dreaming
- Footloose (from the movie) with Bee (but they called it hoof loose)
- Bootie Shakin' with Cathy K.
- the Macarena, Electric Slide, and Jitterbug with Red Crochet- then he danced with her horses (Dolly and Cheyenne)
-the Dosey Doe with Arlene
-something country that wasn't too fast with Mary (good thing! Red Crochet really tired the boy)
- just swaying with Deb. H. (he sways sometime when he's asleep :)
- the Boot Scootin' Boogie with Sherri
-McGuffy doesn't dance, so Wendell used this time to show her his break dancing skills
It makes me tired to look at this list. Thank you to everyone who attended the party. You made it such fun for me and the other participants.
Today's Questions
  1. Do you have any special plans for this fall?
  2. Do you collect anything?
  3. Have you done any canning or freezing this season?
  4. Do you have a friend who lives far away? Where do they live?
  5. When in a store, restaurant, or other business, do you ever complain or praise to the management?
My answers:
  1. I have been trying to get rid of a lot of clutter by taking things to the charity shop, recycling, and the dump. I hope to continue this at a faster pace when it cools off. Besides that, I have some painting to do at the house.
  2. I collect small tins that are shaped like houses.(I will post on them soon.) They aren't easy to find. I also have my mom's tea cup collection, which I add to when I find something I like. My intention isn't to go nuts collecting tea cups. I really don't have much room for them. I wanted to collect tea pots, but that would be even worse to house than  tea cups, so I'll just enjoy the ones I have.
  3. I have frozen lots of produce and made some relish. I have also dehydrated green and red peppers, and tomatoes. I store them in the freezer and use them in dishes all year long. You might ask why I bother to dehydrate them just to freeze them. I found that they only take a small amount of freezer space if dried first. Freezing maintains the quality far longer. BTW- I grind the dried tomatoes and add the powder to tomato based sauces to thicken. It gives them more body and flavor.
  4. I have a friend way out East, across that big pond, in England. We've been friends for a VERY long time. If you go a little less distance the other direction, you'll find a sweet friend in California. Then there are lots of blogger friends all over the place!
  5. I complain if something is really bad, but I also note great service to the management or by letter to the corporation. I figure just complaining would make me crabby, but doing both has a natural sense of balance to it. You should see an employee's face light up when you ask them who the manager is, to give an "atta boy" for a good job. Sometimes they think you're going to complain, so I tell them that they did a good job and I'm not complaining. I never engage the bad workers, just mention something to the boss (not very often though).
I started saying "Have a Wendell Day" last week. I will continue to say it to you since he's such a happy guy and I would wish happiness to each of you.

Have a Wendell Week!

  1. Oh my goodness... don't even mention clutter. I am trying really hard to get rid of some too. It piles up so fast doesn't it. I am not sure where it all came from, but I know it has got to go.

  3. Hello Patrice!
Oh, I can't wait to see your house tins. I love houses, too.
You have inspired me to bag up some junk. I have a sore throat at the moment and feel punk, but as soon as I am all well, I'll go to Goodwill with a bag or two!
Give Wendell a sugar lump from Pom Pom, please! (and a hug around the neck!)

  5. I would love to see your tin collection - don't think I've ever seen a tin in the shape of a house.

  6. I have a few tins that I don't have the heart to throw away. One is in the shape of a red bus. Not sure where that came from LOL.

  11. I didn't get to your chat this week - holiday times are chaotic! Routine goes AWOL and everything seems to be late in getting done. Tell Wendell not to take offence.... I *will* try and be back across to your side of The Pond next week ;)

  12. I'm a purging fool right now- and I can't wait to get all this unneeded stuff out of here! Please talk to me about dehydrating food. Do I NEED a food dehydrator or is it just as good doing it in the oven? How do you do it? What do you use? HELP! LOL I don't know how I ever did anything before I 'met' you! :) Hugs to Wendell! I'm doing my best to have that Wendell day!

  13. Hey Patrice! I just read your comment about my salsa. I used a Mrs. Wages for this batch. I am rather new to freezing and hope to improve and move onto more canning!

  14. Patrice! I am sorry I couldn't link directly to my post. Evidently the title is too long. So, it is linked up to the home page.
