Chats on the Farmhouse Porch 50

Everyday Ruralty

Fifty weeks! Fifty Weeks? Already? I've been enjoying good company on the porch for almost a year now. I guess we have a porch-a-versary just around the corner. Wait until I tell Wendell. I still visit everyone, but have had some problem commenting. Know that I have been there.

We have had record breaking heat here and it has been bone dry. Last night we had some storm activity, but that can often just mean boom boom and a light show. In the middle of the night I was awaken to rain. I was so excited that I yelled, "Yay, rain". C.S.Farmer must have been exhausted, because he just kept sleeping.

Don't forget that I am having a Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Giveaway. This is the best coconut oil I have ever used.
Questions
  1. Do you exercise?
  2. What's your favorite type of party or get together?
  3. What's your favorite kind of melon?
  4. Do you ever go to a farmers' market?
  5. Would you prefer a series of day trips, or a week's vacation?
My answers:
  1. No. I hate to exercise. I don't mind getting exercise while doing something else. I really need to get myself into the habit a regular walks each day. Running is out for me. I usually end up hurting myself more than helping. I love to swim and used to be a lap swimmer, but there isn't a place I want to swim here. I wouldn't want to impose on my friend with a pool each day. I'm too private to enjoy the county pool and its crowds.
  2. I love fall or winter parties, since the farm is so pretty. I'm much more inspired to do something like that when it's cool. I like to have a nice dinner for folks and either take a walk around the farm or a hayride.
  3. I love watermelon. We have had some great ones the past few growing seasons. D3 and I can just about eat our weight in watermelons!:) Honeydew and cantaloupe have never really been my choice.
  4. We sell at one. Prior to that, I used to go to them. I even went to them when I was in high school- back when the whole "eat local" thing wasn't as big. They are a great way to know what you're getting. Most farmers will gladly tell you if they used a spray on their produce, or how they fed their livestock. Then you can make wise choices.
  5. While I love a good vacation, day trips make more sense for us right now. We have way too many animals to rely on anyone to care for them. Day trips aren't as costly either.
By the way, before you leave the porch, don't forget to take your flowers.
Have a wonderful week!

  2. Hi Patrice!
I've been going to exercise class and I like it because everyone there seems to be doing it for health as opposed to body sculpting. I don't like sweating, but I'm always glad I went and I feel better. I love watermelon, too. YUM! I always like to read your questions and my friends' answers. I hope you get a rainy day very soon!

  3. Thanks, Ms. Patrice, for letting me join in again. We've had some hot weather here, too....getting up to 105 a few days. That's very much out of the ordinary for our neck of the woods. We've had some rain and it's cooled down a bit, so we're doing much better!!! Seems like most of us like watermelon!!! Oh, and thanks for the pretty flowers!!! HOPE you have a great rest of the week!!!

  4. I do laps in my pool every night. There's no way I'd go to a public pool and fight the crowds - or be seen in public with a swimsuit on!

  7. Do you exercise? I try to walk, but in this heat; it's been tough. I really need to get back at it because I was seeing a weight loss when I was at it regularly.
What's your favorite type of party or get together? Very casual like a bon fire in the fall.
What's your favorite kind of melon? Muskmelon or Cantaloupe They are the same thing in my mind.
Do you ever go to a farmers' market? NO! but I really need to since I did not put out a garden this year. Mom and dad have been bringing goodies down from their garden too.
Would you prefer a series of day trips, or a week's vacation? A week!

I'm alive, but on everyone else's schedule but mine. Can't wait for the fair to come and go. It starts the 19th, but projects are due Sunday. Two more pages of scrapbooking are still waiting on K to finish. Will try to tackle that tonight!

My hydrangeas are just starting to bloom but I won't have enough on the plant to cut for enjoyment so thank you for yours :)) The questions for chatting this week it is right in my alley, I work for agricultural so we do the permits for the farmers markets and when the guys walk a field there is perks of melons, I love watermelon too I have been known to get an extra juicy one and just cut it in half and take a spoon and eat the whole half so as not to make as big as mess so I say, its because I L O V E it :))

  9. Yes, my email got hacked last night. I changed the password this morning - glad you didn't click on the link!

We grew watermelon in our garden last summer and it was such a treat! This year it didn't take, but we'll have canteloupe instead, as long as I can keep these squash bugs at bay.

  10. I like splashing in the pool, but I'm like you -- too private. Maybe in my dream house someday I can have my own pool to play in. ^.^ Thanks for the beautiful hydrangea. My MIL grows these and I just love them! Thanks for hosting again, my friend!

  12. I haven't been swimming in YEARS. Talk about displacement of water...LOL I just went and bought another exercise ball for taller people (I'm 5'10") and am sitting on it while reading/commenting on blogs to try and "engage my core" more. LOL I'll let you know if it works. It's been raining all around us but not ON us. And, by all around us I mean- right down the road. I keep hoping we'll get some soon.I'm ready to win the coconut oil!

  13. What beautiful flowers. I love them. :)

I can't imagine taking a long vacation and leaving someone else in charge of the animals. It was hard taking the pets with us during the evacuation, but it would have been much harder leaving them behind. I don't know how those with livestock/large farm animals deal with it when faced with a mandatory evacuation, especially if they only have one animal-hauling trailer. How would one choose which animals evacuate and which have to stay behind. That would be so hard. :(

I don't like swimming in public pools either. I don't want anyone seeing me like that. It would take a lot just to get me into a backyard pool in my own backyard. haha

We've have tons of rain the last few days, complete with flash flood warnings and river warnings. I can't figure the river warning, though. We rode by it and the ditches in our neighborhood are filled deeper than the river is right now.

I enjoyed being back to visit again on your porch. Have a great week!
