Thor, the Viking

The Viking Section of Epcot

I'm a bit embarrassed to show you the stove I've been cooking on. I had a lovely stove, but I killed it. I cook so much that I kill kitchen appliances. When I sent my last decent stove to the great scrap yard in the sky, we moved a very old and ugly stove to the house. It was supposed to be "temporary". It worked and I'm not one to complain. Do you think three years is temporary? Well, C.S.Farmer and I spoke of getting a nice new stove, but we just kept being busy.

The temporary stove had some severe problems. The most comical was the fact that the door had to be closed with duct tape. This was becoming scary! I could cook with the help of duct tape. My years as a professional chef had not prepared me for this. I was scared that it would be too easy for C.S.Farmer to give me a replacement...another roll of duct tape!

Things were looking up when an acquaintance remodeled his kitchen and offered us his stove. We had come very close to purchasing something affordable and far nicer than the temporary stove, but we never completed the transaction. When C.S. went to pick up the stove, we were quite happy with the new one. It's a Viking gas range! I cook on Vulcan, Five Star, Wolf, and Vikings at work, but they aren't in our budget. I am so happy to have this beautiful new range. Allow me to introduce Thor.
Thor

No more duct tape for me!

  2. That is nice. Do you know when we lived in our first house I bought my first stove at a yard sale for 5 bucks! Then one day there was some people down the street that had this awesome looking one sitting out on the outside of the house because they got a new one. It was a solid wonderful oven. We stopped and they sold it to us. Now those are collectors gold. I left it when we moved. Never have I had such a great stove.
I have nice ones now but give me the old solid ones Every time. I am so glad you don't have to use duc tape on this one.
    Nice name too. :)

  4. I thought I would crack up when you said you cook so much you kill appliances....My fisherman would be in heaven with you...You see my daughter said to her daddy one day...we could hide Christmas presents in the oven and mama would never find them......I cooked all the time when my children were growing up but have gotten out of the habit now that there's just the two of us.....I get the fever every once in a while but it doesn't hit often.hahahahah WOW, being a chef must be wonderful for your family...Would you come and live with us?

Your new viking is wonderful and I know you are going to have fun "killing" it....

  5. Congratulations on your beautiful new Viking gas stove. I'm so glad for you. A professional chef without a stove is like eating steak without teeth.

I can't wait for you to share what's cooking on your new Viking Thor mighty stove, I had to laugh at your statement that you killed your stove by too much cooking. I had an Enterprise stove for 35 years with heavy cooking and baking for boarders and family so it was used a lot but the second one I got didn't last and neither the third one which I'm still using. They just don't make them durable like they used to. Have a wonderful weekend cooking and baking. I know it's Lent but you still have to eat. JB

  6. I had such a wonderful five burner gas stove in our last house. Now, I'm cooking with electric for the first time. But, I'm a true cook...and have learned to cope. Your stove is great! Enjoy!

  8. I understand 3 years being temporary. But it's great that Thor came along--it was meant to be.

  12. That is defintley an upgrade! I think duct tape anywhere on the oven while its running is kindof scary. This is nice, good for you!
