Chats on the Farmhouse Porch 30

It's still Valentine's Day, but not for long. I hope it was a wonderful day for each of you. I apologize for being on the late side with our chat, but hubby was willing to do some home improvements and I wanted to help while he was willing to do the work. If he'd found something else to do while I was writing a bl9g post, I'd have been very unhappy. Thanks for your patience!

Last week I visited everyone who participated in Farmhouse Chats. I tried to comment, but I was unable to do so. It was as if I had been banned from commenting. Please know that I ALWAYS visit everyone who participates and I comment. If this continues, I will contact Blogger to see what's going on.

Let's get to this week's questions.

  1. Did you do anything special for Valentine's Day?
  2. What was the last craft item that you made?
  3. Are you planning a garden? Are you swamped with seed catalogs?
  4. What cosmetics do you have in your purse?
  5. When there is a room to be painted in your home, who does the painting?
My answers:
  1. Hubby and I joke that a trip to Home Depot on 2/13 was our Valentine's Day celebration. :) He brought me some lovely yellow tulips from our farmers' market.

2. I made a flower fairy for D4's birthday last week and I painted a small wooden birdhouse for the fairy to sit on for the center of her birthday cake.

3. We grow vegetables for a living, so you know my answer to this one. We should have around 60 varieties. The seed catalogs are pouring in. I have noticed, over the years, how easy gardening seems from the comfort of a reclining chair. Even though they're a bit of work, I would encourage everyone to have a garden.

4. I have a lip balm from Tropical Traditions, and an organic mascara. That's it! I'm not very complicated.

5. Hubby hates to paint and I think it's great fun. I don't like painting the ceiling, because I always find myself visiting the chiropractor afterwards. He's a nice guy and a wonderful chiropractor, but I'd rather put my own kids through college than his! I will be painting my dining room this week and I can't wait until it's finished. I have two daughters who also like to paint, so I think it should go fast. This room has been a temporary bedroom for C.S.Farmer and me, but we've moved into another room of the house and I will have a dining room again. Yay! I will be painting it pale butter yellow, with white trim. I have many dishes and linens that are blue and white, so I think they will be lovely with the pale yellow. I will show you my project.

Have a lovely week!

  2. Hi Patrice!
The tulips are beeeeyooootiful! Home Depot? Ha ha! That's fun though, I must admit!
My Valentine is in Australia at the moment. The kids at school gave me way too much chocolate. Ack.
I love the heart month, so I'll keep celebrating all month long.
Your fairy is VERY cute! Happy Valentine's Day!

  6. Tulips are so pretty. I planted bunches of them years ago and I only got to enjoy them one season. After that, they wouldn't come up again. I guess it's our poor soil - red clay. I mixed in some potting soil, but I guess this wasn't good enough. Maybe one day in our dream house I can create a lovely landscape with some nice rich top soil to work into my flower beds. Thanks for hosting!

  7. I was beginning to get worried about you. I'm glad it was that y'all were busy and not that y'all were sick! The tulips are so pretty. Hubs brought me some a while back (living ones of course--I can't stand killing flowers). Once they 'died' I left the pot in the kitchen window and now, the bulbs are sprouting! I'm so excited that they are coming back! I didn't kill them!

  9. Hi Patrice, those tulips are absolutely beautiful and brings a promise of spring.
Again, i'll answer your questions her.

    1. I bought my husband dark chocolate and made him a delicious meal.
    2. The last craft that I made was a portrait hooked rug of my grandmother when she was young. It turned out better than I thought it would.
    3. I plant a vegetable garden and also lots of flowers.
    4. That one is pretty easy. I carry a lipstick which I rarely use anyway. I'm pretty low maintenance these days.
5 I do all the inside painting in our house. My husband helped me do the corner ceiling a few years ago and he was so stingy with the ceiling pint that you can see where he painted.

    Have a wonderful week. JB

  12. 1. Hubby took me out to lunch and bought flowers for all his girls. I treated myself to a new haircut!
    2. Jeeze....does designing the 2012 elementary basketball banquet program count? I so need to get back to my scrapbooking before Tink is ready to graduate from something.
    3. My garden dreams are Rolls Royce and my abilities are mo-ped. We will see. It's usually an epic fail with the weeds winning.
    4. Lip gloss unless #2 girl has swiped it!
    5. I paint usually, but I found a friend who likes to do it too, and she is brave and creative with color!

Miss answering your questions. I've been on the crazy ride since we returned from Hawaii, and that was a month ago! ACK!!!!

  13. A trip to Home Depot is my kind of Valentine's Day!
I do love the tulips! We planted some last fall... I can't wait to see them... although I may have to spend nights sitting out by the plot with my shotgun to keep the critters away!
