Chats on the Farmhouse Porch 25

Hello, friends! It's easier to believe that it's winter now that the weather is true to January. We had snow yesterday and some of the snow flakes looked like Queen Anne's Lace, the flower, was falling from the sky. A few of the snowflakes took up the palm of my hand. Big snowflakes!

I just recently posted my 400th post. I have been dancing with the number of followers for a couple months now. I have had 490 or so, but it varies so much that I wonder if I will ever reach 500. I wanted to reach 500 by Christmas, then by the first of the year, but it didn't happen. Then it struck me. Was it a big snowflake that struck  you? One hit me on my ear and another on my backside. No, Wendell. A thought struck me. Oh, I don't waste time with  things like thoughts. I like carrots much better. Wen, can I get back to what I was telling the people. Sure. I don't know why you're bothering me during my lunch anyway! Okay.  As I was saying, I was all wrapped up with the number of GFC followers when I realized that it isn't that big anyway. I'd rather have ten pleasant followers who enjoy visiting my blog and interact with me by comments and links than huge numbers. I've been blessed with far more than I'd ever imagined. I have some lovely followers and readers. They remind me that there are some great people around. It's easy to get caught up in news reports and the people who drive you crazy from day to day. You can easily lose sight of how wonderful it is just to get an email from a friend or a simple note in the mail. As my mother would have said, "Quality, not quantity, dear."

  1. How often do you wear a skirt or dress?
  2. Did you feel unmotivated after Christmas and New Years?
  3. What was the last thing that made you say "Wow"?
  4. Do you shop with a list, or do you "wing it"?
  5. I enjoyed this so much that I will ask this again. What questions would you like me to ask on our Chat?
My answers:
  1. I wear one most weeks to church. During the summer I enjoy a light weight dress, but it isn't always practical with the farm. In the winter I love wearing a long, heavy skirt with boots. I am still  a blue jean girl though.
  2. I was so unmotivated that I wanted to ask this question just to see if it was me, or if others felt that way. I don't know if it's some type of let down from all the busy times during the Holidays, or something to do with the amount of sunlight. How do they handle it in Alaska when it's dark for long stretches of time?
  3. I was at a repertoire class for my singer daughter last night. That is a class where the students sing something that they are currently working on. The instructor makes comments about technique and those watching comment about quality of performance and the way the singer presents it or interprets the song. There was a young tenor there that sung a classical song in English that left everyone in the room saying, "Wow"! He was so passionate about what he was singing and his voice has grown into something quite lovely in the last 1+ year that he has studied with this teacher. Wow!
  4. I do much better if I shop with a list. If I don't have a list, my stomach becomes as pushy as Wendell! I heard that! Oops! Just kidding, bug guy! I save money if I don't go to the store when I'm hungry.
  5. Please share some questions with me. This isn't to fill space, I would like to know what you want to learn from our other participants.

  1. love the questions this week! I would like to know how long some of the girls have blogged for? maybe what their favorite blogs are?

  2. never wear a skirt or dress! the holidays de-motivate me, so i feel better after they're over! a photograph on a blog post made me go 'wow' just this morning.

  3. Well, I for one love coming to visit you.....I love your conversations with Wendell and love that you live on a farm and tell us stories of what's going on there.....I love the chats and I think you do just fine with your questions...Good job....

  4. Well, I always enjoy reading what you come up with and I will try to think of a question.
So glad you posted a chats today.

  5. I'll be back tomorrow with my link up but wanted you to know that you've been tagged at my blog!

  6. 1. Never a skirt; I don't have much of a waist, but I do wear dresses, a lot, especially during the day at home. Texas = summerdresses, even most days in "winter."
    2. I have felt extremely motivated since Christmas/New Year's because we are getting ready to sell our house and move to the country!
    3. Last thing to make me say WOW was when I caught my husband actually dusting the furniture!
    4. I always take a list. I'm a mission shopper.
    5. My question for you: What have you found to be the most difficult part of taking care of chickens?

    Later gater!

  7. Kimberly's question is good :)

And Lana, I'm excited for you moving to the country... THAT would motivate *anyone*, surely!

And Patrice, I *love* what made you go Wow last night. Love it :)
    A x

  8. It's been a while...thought I would pull up a chair this week!!! HOPE that's okay!!! Thanks for letting me join in!

  9. I almost never wear a skirt and always shop with a list. The holidays are so stressful that I am glad they are over! s

  10. Hello, this is my first visit, I'm dropping by from Wise Old Owl Designs..So glad I found you, I did my part to help you reach 500 GFC and I joined your party!! See ya again soon. ))smiles))

  11. How wonderful for the young man in the repertoire class. I think that no teacher alive could improve my voice. I love to sing, but not where anyone can hear me because I sound awful.

Thanks for the chat again this week. I always enjoy visiting you and the folks. :) Have a wonderful day!

  12. Patrice, can you deleted #9 of the link up for me. I messed up. If you can, thanks!

  13. I usually wore dresses or skirts to church when we went all the time. Now we just can't seem to find a good church fit for us. I've heard, actually, that there is an awful lot of depression in Alaska because of the long dark stretches. I just keep myself busy with projects. I gave each of the lovelies a really neat cookbook/scrapbook for christmas that they had to give back to me to fill up. I'm going to put everything I've learned about healthy cooking and gluten/sugar free, etc. in there as well as the old family recipes and decorate the pages and put in personal notes and such. That should keep me busy until Spring...of 2013! LOL

  14. Enjoyed the chat! I'm linking up today. I'm doing something a little different, I'm linking up one post, but at the bottom there is a link to my Wednesday blog hop. Please don't hate me, just tyring something a little different. For some reason I felt led to do it this way. =D

  15. What a fun post!

I wear a dress or skirt at least once a week if not more... especially in the spring/summer because I NEVER wear shorts! LOL
I try to shop with a list because if I don't too many 'bad' things seem to hop into my basket! ;)
The holidays are usually so hectic that I want to hide most times, surprising this year was a lot more low-keyed and enjoyable! I am always unmotivated to take down decorations and still have some of them up (they will be coming down this week though!)
Driving the other day, I saw a rainbow that was one of the widest, largest I have ever seen and I actually was in awe and if I was not driving would have taken a picture!

    have a wonderful week...
oh and p.s I live on a dairy farm. My hubs is a 3rd generation dairyfarmer. My hubs does all the outside chores! I use to when we were first married but, now I rarely go out and help! oops. ;)

  16. Love your blog Patrice. What a pleasure to meet you! I am almost completely unmotivated for the new year! Not sure if that is politically correct or not! LOL! We are already accomplishing much tho! We are not dresses only...that is all I can remember to answer!
Hope to visit again! Blessings! Dana

  17. Interesting questions...I wear a dress/skirt mostly but when it's terribly cold, I'll wear sweat pants to do farm chores.
No, not unmotivated after holidays but incredibly unmotivated since Dave's death. I try and get two things done each day but sometimes even that's too much to achieve.
WOW! Last night, letting the dogs out at 0:dark thirty and the sky was incredible...crisp, clear, amazing!
Always with a list which would amuse Dave no end but I spend less money when I use a list. Lately, that's more important than ever.
Not sure about questions but really like your chats on the porch.
BTW, I just gathered my 400th blog follower and hear google is doing away with Follower's in Feb. OH NO! I love following other bloggers and have them follow me...that's one of Google's BEST features, imo.
So, I'm getting ready, I think on Monday, to have a wonderful giveaway for my followers. They have stood in the gap, prayed, sent cards, thought good thoughts and helped me through these rough first months. They deserve an "Attaboy!" as my brother would say -smile-.
